My name is Christian-W. Budde and this is my personal website. Here you will find everything about me and my work.

My Education

I have studied electrical and information engineering at the RWTH Aachen. My academic degree is Diplom-Ingenieur, which is equal to a master degree. Currently I am now working as an independent software developer and consultant.

My Focuses

I have a strong passion for digital signal processing. Although my focus in on digital audio and acoustics, I also enjoy 2D graphic processing. This said, I have rather delved into mobile frontend development lately, leaving my passion behind.

Most of the things I did in the past targeting audio is currently available as open source.

The compiled code can be used via various front-ends such as ASIO and VST. I also created a front-end for SynthEdit for rapid prototyping. However, I discontinued the development, since it did not work out, the way I planned to use it. Still, dozens of SEmodules can still be found on my pages.

Currently I work as a freelance developer for Web-Apps and HTML5 powered mobile apps.

Software Development

Vst Plugin Analyser By Christian Budde

My programming language of choice is Object Pascal, which evolved from Turbo Pascal to Delphi, but also under the influence of Free Pascal/Lazarus and lately Delphi Web Script. I’ve created several open source projects like the Delphi ASIO & VST Project, PascalType, Object Pascal PNG Library, Pascal Audio Interfaces and some more. Most of these are not complete, but there is a slow, but constant development on all projects. I am also working with and on the Graphics32 library. I also published several Add-Ons for this library such as a seam carving unit and a native PNG library.

Open Source

All compiled code that can be downloaded on this website is available for free. Most often it is also available as open source. Typically, the programs and plugins are kept rather simple and functional, since their main reason is to demonstrate the algorithms behind. For simple tasks this is often satisfying, but for specific tasks further customization is necessary. This service and further support for my software is something I offer for money, so please don’t take it personal if I ignore requests that ask me to work for free. Note also that republishing without explicit permission is forbidden. The reason for this is the fact that it is my portfolio in the first place and not at all costs written for end-users.

Teaching

With the profound knowledge about these audio technologies, I was working as lecturer for computer science at the Erich-Thienhaus-Institute, the Tonmeister Department of Detmold University. My engagement ended with the restructuring of the courses into the internationalized bachelor and master degree.

Recently, I have written several papers in the topics electro-acoustics, acoustic measurement techniques and musical acoustics, with a focus on acoustic measurements. With my research about the confidential range determination in acoustic measurements and the research about audibility in DSP algorithms (in contrast to psychological suggestions by marketing speak), I was invited to hold several presentations across Germany.

In addition to this, I have also run a study group about programming at a local school.

Music

On this site I also present some arrangements and MP3s which I have done in the past. Also, I have collected some (mostly private) pictures here.

Donations

If you like my work, please also consider a donation, especially if you use my code/tools for commercial projects.

Analyse a VST plugin from bottom to top

The VST Plugin Analyser application was designed to be a small tool that allows you to analyse a VST plugin from bottom to top. With several precustomised measurement procedures you can check the impulse / frequency response, have a look at the phase/group delay, identify if the plugin causes distortion and if so, what type it is.

The latest additions cover dynamics. So you can plot the static characteristic, plot the attack/release envelope, make a peak/RMS test or setup your own measurement procedure by using the so called measurment workbench.

Several plots can be stacked inside the program, which allows you to create series of single parameters. The plots can be exported to PNG or SVG (Scalable Vector Format). The vector format allows you to open the plot with any vector program to edit and convert it. It is even possible to import those plots to create a flash animation depending on the vector program you are using.
